Today was a day of wandering. We got out on the bikes, wanting to give our legs a little more conditioning before the big ride to Soller the next day. Our goal was to stay on relatively flat ground and explore the area.

We headed to Pollenca first. It is a sweet town that has done well absorbing tourism without losing its soul. Like many European towns the streets are narrow! I haven’t experienced this before and I’m just taken with it! It’s amazing cars and people can fit in them!

Pollenca is 6 km in from the coast, a strategic placement to avoid pirates. I would say it’s been successful, I didn’t see a single one!

We walked the steps of Calvari: 365 steps up to a small chapel gracing the top of the hill. We were perhaps a bit unconventional as we had to carry our bikes! (They are actually quite light!)

There is a small chapel at the top, along with cafe and postcards. I’m Learning each town has their church, cathedral or chapel that plays a prominent role as landmark and community center.

These are the church doors at the center square.

Our wanderings continued outside of town. These images capture some of the essence of the day.

Complete with Sangria and tapas! Spain is so civilized – I’m smitten!
