I am lying in bed, a dusky sense of daylight has crept through the rolled down shades. Only the birdsongs are a true indicator that its morning and time for me to rise. I know even with my eyes shut that these pretty little songbirds are flitting about in the blossoming almond trees across the street from our window. I’m waking up in the quiet little village of Grazalema, wrapped in the protective arms of the mountains.

This town has provided us the perfect work / life balance which in turn brings harmony to our relationship. There is an abundance of hiking trails, all which lead up somewhere into the surrounding hills and mountains. The internet is reliable and fast, our temporary home has a bigger kitchen for cooking and sperate rooms so I can work and Mike can sit in the sun drinking tea.
When our respective mornings have come to a close we are out the door to stretch out limbs and do what we both love: walk in the mountains. On our way back in the evening we pass by our favorite pasterleria for our daily sweet. I no longer believe one can get through the day without a piece of cake! The day wraps up making a meal together and sitting around in the heated livingroom.

It’s Karst country in these mountains. The dissolving rock leaves very cool features. Sometimes they are deep fissures, others big holes. The rock has sharp edges and runneIed texture. I think they look like rock penitentes. They make for fun hiking!

One of the greatest gifts is seeing Ibex! Mike and I have good Ibex juju, seeing these wild goats almost every day we have been out. He was as close as 75 ft to some. While wary, they are also habituated to people in the reserve so if you sit still, they will return to grazing and you have the oppotunity to watch them.

Thank you Spain for this opportunity, to find peace, joy, movement and balance in the day to day!
